2ND ALARM STRUCTURE ON GRANDVIEW

911 Hot Designs Administrator    December 16, 2013    No Comments

Monday, December 16, 2013 2156 Hours On Monday, December 16, 2013 at approximately 2156hrs. The New Market Fire Co. #1 was dispatched to 333 Grandview Avenue for the reported two car garage attached structure fire.

Upon arrival, Car 1 observed heavy fire bellowing from the two car garage, side-A of the structure. Chief Lemire contacted Fire Dispatch and gave a size-up and requested that New Market Fire Co. be re-toned for the confirmed working structure fire and request all hands to respond and request that a second alarm be dispatched with the first engine company that calls in service would be our RIT Team for the duration of the fire. Car 1 was able to confirm with the homeowner that all occupants were accounted for and were safely out of the structure.

NM Engine-1 was tasked with dropping the 5” supply line from the corner of Grandview Avenue and Magnolia Court which was 500’ away. Initially we established a defensive attack on the fire attempting to keep it contained to the garage area as not to spread to the living quarters and the exposures on either side.

Arbor Fire, River Road and North Stelton Fire Co.‘s arrived which allowed us to offensively attack the fire from side-A, B and side-D. Two interior crews were established on the Red/Yellow 1-3/4” hand lines that were initially stretched. There was a additional 3in line that was stretched to side-B to protect the exposure, Deputy
Chief Bellina acted as Operations and Assistant Chief Previtera acted as Staging & Safety Officer collecting all accountability tags for the incident.

The fire broke through the fire wall on the second floor and traveled across the living quarters to a window on side-C. Interior crews on side-C made entry through a second story window an attempted an aggressive attack. Conditions on the second floor side-C deteriorated rapidly with heavy grey smoke pushing out. OIC requested
all interior crews to evacuate the structure immediately and a PAR report was requested showing all crews were accounted for. After a short time on a defensive attack with 2-1-3/4in, 2-1/2in and the waterway from Truck-6 crews were able to bring the fire under control at approximately 0030hrs.

After the fire was deemed out, the rotating crews were tasked with heavy overhaul to check for extensions into the remaining structure. Once the fire was deemed under control it was turned over to The Piscataway Fire Marshal’s Office for investigative purposes. There were 5-Fire Companies, 3-Rescue Squads and a total of 60 emergency personnel on scene with no reported injuries. The residents were able to secure temporary living with relatives.
